Politicians always need a crisis to act

It is interesting, to say the least, that politicians only seem to react when there is a crisis looming.

Our economic outlook is bleak and average citizens are having difficulty making ends meet. Now the U. S. Congress wants to act.

Why didn't they do something for the last eight years? Politicians were more interested in the global economy, the Middle East war and their own futures to notice.

Now there's talk of doing something for the poor and middle class. Arguments have surfaced about tax rebates.

However some want to include those that don't pay taxes. Again stupidity reigns. If someone is not paying taxes for whatever reason, they should not be included in those discussions.

Taxpayers are shouldering the financial burden for the programs the poor and non-taxpayers take advantage of. Only taxpayers should be considered at this time.

Even with the federal government taking notice of this crisis, state and local governments are still looking to increase taxes as if there is no problem.

The word recession doesn't register with them. Logic should remind them that if our economy is slowing down, which the feds recognize, then there's not enough money for increased taxation and programs. It means they should also start cutting back on unnecessary spending.

However, nothing will change until a crisis erupts before these politicians act.
