Schaumburg officer released from hospital following crash
The Schaumburg police officer injured in a two-car collision in Hoffman Estates Wednesday was released from the hospital Friday and is back home.
Schaumburg Police Sgt. John Nebl did not know when the unnamed officer would return to duty, but guessed it would be at least a couple of months given the nature of his head and chest injuries.
The crash occurred Wednesday morning as the officer was waiting in his squad car to turn left onto northbound Roselle Road from Illinois Boulevard.
His squad car, which was on routine patrol, was struck by a southbound vehicle driven by a 28-year-old Lake Zurich woman. She was treated and released the same day.
Though the Schaumburg officer had a stop sign and the Lake Zurich woman didn't, Hoffman Estates police issued no tickets in the collision, saying that a school bus turning right from southbound Roselle Road onto westbound Illinois Boulevard obscured the view of both drivers.
