Scheurer will lead on health care
When comparing the two Democratic choices for 8th District Congress, Democrat Randi Scheurer offers the best choice concerning the long overdue overhaul of the American health care system.
It is evident that Congresswoman Melissa Bean prefers the Republican approach of not doing much to correct the excesses of the current corporate-controlled health insurance system. Her support of Republican proposals to give workers and businesses some miniscule tax breaks will not bring health care to those millions of Americans currently uninsured.
Randi Scheurer's support of a single payer federal system that mirrors that of Western European countries and Canada is the only proposal that makes any logical sense.
Today's American dysfunctional health care system is controlled by corporate interests in insurance, pharmaceutical and for-profit hospital industries that siphon off millions of dollars into profits, CEO salaries and executive bonuses that can be better spent providing patient care.
The practice by insurance companies to deny payments for care to pad the bottom line is but one example of practices that have to be stopped. These insurers are also allowed to legally discriminate by cherry picking their customers and not accepting anyone who has any health issues.
Unfortunately, the only way this practice will stop will be with a federal mandate. Randi Scheurer has expressed her willingness to help do that.
Legislation will be required from Congress. Randi Scheurer will provide the leadership needed on health care issues.
Trusting Melissa Bean and Republicans in Congress to do what has to be done will only result in silly tax breaks that will do nothing to solve the American health care needs of the uninsured. It will be more of the same old tired nonsense.
There is must be a change in Congressional direction and Randi Scheurer provides that real alternative for Democrats on Feb. 5.
