Schaumburg cop still hospitalized after crash
A turning school bus apparently blocked the vision of both a Schaumburg police officer and a Lake Zurich woman whose vehicles collided in Hoffman Estates Wednesday morning.
Police will likely issue no tickets in the crash that occurred at Roselle Road and Illinois Boulevard at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday, Hoffman Estates Sgt. Jim Campbell said.
The 39-year-old Schaumburg police officer spent the night at St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates and was scheduled for more tests today.
His initial injuries were characterized as serious but not life-threatening, Schaumburg Police Sgt. John Nebl said.
The 28-year-old Lake Zurich woman's injuries were not as severe. She was treated and released from St. Alexius Wednesday, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Authorities have said that the crash occurred when the officer was attempting to turn left onto northbound Roselle Road from eastbound Illinois Boulevard and collided with a Mercury Grand Marquis heading south on Roselle.
The officer had a stop sign at Roselle Road; the other driver did not.
Hoffman Estates Police Officer Rodney Penrod said the vision of both drivers had been obstructed by a school bus turning right from southbound Roselle onto westbound Illinois.
The school bus was not involved in the collision, Penrod said.
The investigation of Hoffman Estates police has been concluded and no citations are expected against any of the drivers, Campbell said.
