Dist. 200 has made case for a tax hike
The choice of paying more taxes is always a serious matter, especially given current economic conditions.
However, Wheaton-Warrenville School District 200 has made their case regarding the Hubble Middle School referendum question on the Feb. 5 ballot.
They have identified a longstanding problem, i.e. the hopelessly outdated physical plant and educational facility at the current Hubble site. They have offered a reasonable solution with the proposal for a new replacement facility on the Warrenville site.
The fact that it is a major capital project requires funding outside normal operational budgeting. A positive vote on the referendum question will grant District 200 the authority to secure sufficient funds from the capital markets to finance the project.
They have been very open and circumspect about the entire process, including the terms by which rates will be applied to our real estate tax bills for the borrowed funds to be repaid.
Please note that although some short-term gain may be realized should the referendum not succeed, the longstanding Hubble problem will remain or at best be delayed.
Join me on Feb. 5 in supporting District 200 by voting "yes" for a new Hubble Middle School.
