Vandals trash two cars at Wheaton manager's home

Wheaton police are searching for vandals who damaged two cars parked in the driveway of Wheaton City manager Don Rose late Friday night.

Rose had three vehicles parked in his driveway on Emden Lane when the damaged occurred. One is a city-owned vehicle. The other two are personal vehicles used mostly by Rose's children.

One of the personal vehicles was untouched. The other personal vehicle suffered deep scratches to the paint and a punctured tire.

Meanwhile, the city-owned vehicle suffered the most significant damage.

"The city car got totally trashed," Rose said.

All four tires were slashed, and an unknown device was used to carve grooves all around both sides of the vehicle and the trunk. The city car carried no identifying marks designating it as a public vehicle.

Rose said he thinks someone specifically targeted vehicles in his driveway because he is the city manager.

"That certainly seems to be the case," Rose said. "Especially since the second private vehicle wasn't touched at all and nothing was stolen. It doesn't seem to be random."

No other vehicles on Rose's street suffered damage.

Anyone with information about the incident should call the Wheaton police at (630) 260-2161.
