Kennel Club to hold its conformation show Jan. 26

Park Shore Kennel Club will hold an all-breed conformation show Jan. 26 at Lake County Fairgrounds, 50 S. Route 45, Grayslake. Junior showmanship will also be included.

• Chain O'Lakes Kennel Club will have the same menu at the same location Jan. 27.

New classes: River Trails Park District will have Trick and Treat sessions starting at 7:15 p.m. Jan. 29 and Basic Obedience at 7:15 p.m. Jan. 30. All classes are taught using positive reinforcement and provide homemade dog treats and recipes.

These are open to dogs of all ages for eight-week sessions and are held in the multipurpose room at 550 Business Center Drive in Mount Prospect.

Register online at www.rtdp.org or call (847) 255-1200. For details, call (847) 215-8969 or bark@eskieconnection.com.

• Leash and Collar Dog Training will hold a new Advanced Obedience class, which includes the Canine Good Citizenship course, at 8:45 p.m. Jan. 30 at 238 Saunders Road, Riverwoods. To register, call (847) 945-4544.

Rainbow news: Rainbow Animal Assisted Therapy's first good news is the announcement of a new address, which is 6042 W. Oakton, Morton Grove, IL 60053. It includes an office and day-to-day business and on-going training classes. The telephone number is (773) 283-1129.

New on Rainbow's schedule are fly-ball classes from 7:30 to 9 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesdays. For those and everything else the organization has to offer, including the different locations, call (773) 736-9021 or e-mail dhking1@juno.com.

I couldn't begin to include all this volunteer organization does in promoting animals that help with therapy for those with emotional, mental or physical disabilities.

Don't toss it: If you have holiday decorations in good condition that you don't want anymore, contact Northern Illinois Samoyed Assistance at (708) 839-0826. That includes decorations for any of our holidays. NISA plans to have a Holiday Garage Sale at this year's Sam-O-Rama.

Clarification: I mentioned not to distract a service dog when on leash in last week's column. That should have read on harness. However, it is a courtesy to ask permission to pet or talk to a service dog even when on leash.

Wrong number: If you have weight circles, cell phones, etc. to be redeemed for money to care for homeless animals, the correct number to call Strays Halfway House is (630) 351-3150.
