Fire displaces Glendale Heights family

A family was left homeless today after a fire gutted their Glendale Heights house, authorities said.

Glenside Fire Protection District officials said they responded about 12:12 p.m. to the blaze at 1384 Glen Hill Drive. It took firefighters about 45 minutes to extinguish the flames.

"It was a stubborn fire," Fire Chief Don Markowski said. "Because the fire was primarily in the basement area, it weakened the first floor. So we had to fight the fire defensively for the safety of our personnel."

No one was inside the roughly 40-year-old house at the time of the fire, and no injuries have been reported, Markowski said.

The family that lived in the home has been relocated, officials said.

Information about the total damage amount and where the fire started wasn't available.

The fire doesn't appear to be suspicious in nature, though the cause is still being investigated, Markowski said.

Crews from the Carol Stream, Bloomingdale, Wheaton, Addison, Winfield, West Chicago, Glen Ellyn and Lombard fire departments assisted in battling the blaze, officials said.
