Fixed incomes need tax relief

As all of us are aware, in particular those on fixed incomes, property taxes are disgracefully exorbitant and out of control.

Immediate relief is mandatory for those of us who never had children, sent their children to parochial schools, or those whose children are beyond the public schools which we shall hereafter referred to as Group A.

It is nothing but absolute theft, stealing and a flagrant rip off for those with school age children to put their sticky hands in Group A pockets to pay for their children's education costs.

It is only parents of school-age children who should be paying school taxes.

All of us have heard the somewhat lame argument that prior taxpayers paid for our schooling years ago. If one wants to attribute minimal validity to that, then those in Group A should only have to pay school taxes equal to number of years they attended, were eligible to attend, or for duration of years their children attended public schools.

Most of us have heard the touchy-feely hogwash that it takes a village to raise a child. That is nonsense. It takes caring parents who are concerned enough about education to provide the education funding themselves, and not look to others to pay for what is their sole responsibility.

Instead of directly ripping off those on fixed incomes such as Group A, why not add sufficient taxes against alcoholic beverages to meet educational costs?

Parents with school children vote to increase property taxes while those in Group A generally vote against increasing them. What about all the gerrymandering of salaries to increase pensions? With the excessive school property taxes, Illinois has become a very expensive state to reside in, especially for those in Group A on fixed incomes. It is now time for action to obtain relief.
