Briefs: Lake-Cook work begins

Off-peak daytime closures are scheduled on Lake-Cook Road between Sanders Road and Wilmot Road through Friday for pavement reconstruction work. Hearing on yard parking

A public hearing is set for will 1 p.m. Wednesday regarding proposed changes to county zoning regulations to prohibit parking personal vehicles on grass in the front yard of homes in unincorporated areas. The county's zoning board of appeals will host the special hearing at the Lake County division of transportation conference room, 600 W. Winchester Road, Libertyville. The proposed amendment would apply to boats, snowmobiles, cars, RVs and other personal vehicles. A front yard is defined as the area between the home and the street. The county zoning ordinance does not regulate the manner in which vehicles can be parked in front yards either by number, size or, location.

Local author book signing

Inspirational author Deborah Finley of Island Lake will sign copies of her new book at noon Thursday at Hackney's Restaurant, 880 N. Rand Road, Lake Zurich. A portion of the book proceeds will help women and children shelters. The book is titled "What Your Future Holds and What You Can Do To Change It." Forum on aging

The 22nd annual Lake County legislative forum on aging is set for Friday, 8 to 10 a.m., at the Libertyville Civic Center, 135 W. Church St., Libertyville. The subject is: "Trends and Emerging Issues: Impact on Older Adults in Lake County." Speakers include Joyce Palmquist, executive director of the Barrington Area Council on Aging. Free plane rides offered

The Young Eagles Program at Chicago Executive Airport in Wheeling is holding a rally Saturday to allow kids ages 7 to 17 to go on their first plane ride for free. Parents should call the Young Eagles Hotline at (847) 883-8388. Those interested will be contacted before the rally with a sign-in time and instructions.
