1,000 hit by power outage in eastern DuPage
A Thursday power outage affected more than 1,000 ComEd customers in Oakbrook Terrace and surrounding areas.
The outage left people stuck inside elevators at Oakbrook Towers condominiums and the office building at 1 Lincoln Center.
Rescue workers from York Center Fire Protection District and Oakbrook Terrace Fire Department helped release them by manually lowering the elevators, York Center Chief Andy Bonomo said.
The cause for the outage is still unknown and is being investigated, ComEd spokesman John Dewey said.
By late Thursday evening, workers had restored power to all but 45 of the affected sites. The remainder were expected to be back online by midnight.
Outages occurred mainly in these areas: Royce Boulevard to 22nd Street and Camden Court to Transam Plaza Drive; from Lincoln Center to Butterfield Road and Arden Court to Vista Avenue; from 16th Street to I-88 and Kimberly Way to Meyers Road.
