Briefs: Man struck by car
A 45-year-old man struck by a car Wednesday afternoon in Hawthorn Woods, police said. The man, whose name was withheld pending family notification, was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. His condition is unknown. He was hit by a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier traveling west on Old McHenry Road, just west of Abbey Glenn Road near two Lake Zurich Unit District 95 schools at roughly 2:20 p.m. Old McHenry Road was closed between Abbey Glenn and Redwood for about two hours due to the crash. Charges are pending against the driver of the Cavalier, an 18-year-old Island Lake man. Hawthorn Woods Police Chief Jennifer Paulus said investigators don't believe drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash. Witnesses at the scene reported a red pickup truck that was following behind the Cavalier slowed down after the crash but then left the scene. Hawthorn Woods investigators want to interview the pickup driver and are asking the witness to contact the police department. Democratic primary debate
Dan Seals and Jay Footlik, challengers in the Democratic primary in the 10th Congressional District, are scheduled to debate at 7 tonight at New Trier High School, Northfield Campus, 7 Happ Road, Building C, Room 234. The event is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Arlington Heights. Seals and Footlik also are scheduled to be part of a league forum Saturday, which will include candidates for the 66th House District. That forum is at 10 a.m., at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library, 500 N. Dunton Ave.
Interviews for trustee
Ela Township Board will meet at 6 tonight to interview candidates for a vacant trustee position. The seat was vacated when the board appointed Trustee John Schweda to the township assessor's post. Candidate interviews will be followed by a closed session board discussion of the trustee appointment. The board will meet in the Ela Township Community Center, located in the Foglia YMCA, 1025 Old McHenry Road, Lake Zurich.
