Canadiens to honor rivalry with Blackhawks

MONTREAL -- Prior to tonight's game at the Bell Centre, the Canadiens will hold a ceremony recognizing their long-standing rivalry with the Blackhawks.

Scheduled to represent the Hawks are Hall of Famers Bobby Hull, Stan Mikita, Tony Esposito and Denis Savard along with Steve Larmer and Eric Nesterenko.

Among the Canadiens on hand will be Henri Richard, Yvan Cournoyer, Guy Lafleur and Ken Dryden.

Maybe it should be a ceremony to recognize how much the Canadiens have dominated the Hawks over the years. The two Original Six clubs have met 550 times in the regular season with the Canadiens owning a 298-148-103-1 advantage.

The playoff history is even more lopsided in Montreal's favor. It was the Canadiens who handed the Hawks maybe their most crushing loss ever in Game 7 of the 1971 Stanley Cup Finals, rallying from a 2-0 deficit to win 3-2 at Chicago Stadium.
