Two injured in Bensenville garage fire

Two Bensenville residents are hospitalized after a Saturday morning garage fire at 614 W. Green St.

According to Bensenville Fire Protection District officials, both of the injured people were residents of 614 W. Green but identities were not available Saturday afternoon.

One of the injured was taken to Loyola University Health System in Maywood to be treated for burns. The other was treated for less serious injuries at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.

Firefighters said Saturday afternoon that the fire broke out just after 10 a.m. and was under control in about an hour.

Damage estimates were not yet available but officials said the blaze destroyed the garage, the Chevy Tahoe parked inside and two vans parked just outside. The neighboring home at 608 W. Green also suffered fire damage to a portion of its siding.

They believe the residents may have been working on the SUV when the fire started but the cause is still under investigation.
