Briefs: Meetings may change

Cook Memorial Public Library District officials are considering eliminating one of their semi-monthly board meetings. The board now meets on the first and third Thursdays of every month, but officials may eliminate the first meeting. If the plan progresses, the panel would continue meeting on the third Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., board President Aaron Lawlor said. The location would alternate between the main library in Libertyville and the Laschen Center in Vernon Hills. Additionally, the board's committees would meet on the first Tuesday of each month, under the plan. The board could approve the proposal Jan. 15.

Man accused of perjury

Heriberto Hernandez, 18, of 3428 Crescent Ave., Gurnee, was charged with felony perjury after he was issued a traffic citation, Gurnee police announced Friday. Authorities said Hernandez was ticketed for failure to yield or reduce speed when approaching an emergency vehicle about 2:52 a.m. Dec. 2 on Route 41 at Washington Street. After receiving the citation, Hernandez visited Gurnee police headquarters and complained the ticketing officer used derogatory language and threatened him during the traffic stop. Police said Hernandez's complaint included a sworn affidavit attesting to the truth of his statement. However, Deputy Police Chief Kevin Woodside said the entire exchange was captured on audio and video from a camera mounted inside of the officer's squad car. He said the audio and video showed Hernandez's accusations to be false. Hernandez is free on a $25,000 recognizance bond.
