Learn about College Illinois at February library program

College Illinois, Illinois' only 529 prepaid tuition program, will offer a presentation on college funding Feb. 26 at the McHenry Public Library, 813 W. Route 120, McHenry.

College Illinois allows parents, grandparents, other family members and friends to protect a child's future college education from tuition inflation by locking in a price now to cover future college tuition and fees.

Nancy Stephens, associate director of College Illinois!, will speak about college funding options, benefits of the College Illinois prepaid tuition program and how interested family members and friends can enroll a child before the annual enrollment period ends April 29. Stephens will also be available to answer questions following the presentation.

The program is 100 percent tax exempt. Illinois taxpayers can deduct College Illinois contributions (up to $10,000 per year for singles; $20,000 for married couples) from their taxable income.

Plan benefits can be used at public and private schools and community colleges in Illinois as well as public and private institutions nationwide.

Unlike other investments and savings plans that rely on stock market performance. College Illinois is backed by the state of Illinois, providing families with a secure option for paying for college.
