Eighth-grade girls interested in attending Rosary High School in Aurora should register for the placement exam by Monday. Get the application for admission and release of records form from www.rosaryhs.com and return it to Rosary with $30. The exam is at 8 a.m. Jan. 12 at the school, 901 N. Edgelawn Drive. Try out for 'Misery'

Auditions for "Misery," based on the Stephen King novel, are at 7:30 p.m. Sunday and Monday at Albright Theatre, in the Batavia Government Center, 100 N. Island Ave., Batavia. The two-person cast calls for a man and a woman, each age 30 to 60. Auditions will include cold readings from the script. No appointments are necessary. Smoking cessation class

Central DuPage Hospital and the DuPage County Health Department is sponsoring a free seven-week smoking cessation class starting Jan. 10 at the hospital's Winfield campus. The classes will meet for seven consecutive Thursday evenings starting at 6 p.m. Call (630) 933-4234 to register.

Citizens academy

Aurora police are accepting applications for the spring session of the Citizens Police Academy, which will run for 10 consecutive Thursdays starting Feb. 21. The free academy teaches residents about the department, exploring topics including criminal law, gang and drug awareness, investigations and more. Classes are from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the department's Area Two facility, 157 N. Root St. The first class will be held at police headquarters, 350 N. River St. Pre-registration is required and applicants must be at least 21 and submit to a background check. Applications are available at the police departments and city hall.

Sugar Grove meeting dates

Due to the New Year's Day holiday, the Sugar Grove village board will meet Tuesday and Jan. 22 rather than the usual first and third Tuesdays. The board will meet at 6 p.m. and the committee of the whole will meet at 6:30 p.m. The regular schedule resumes in February.
