Murder case still open

The search for the killer of Keith Daugherty of Schaumburg, pictured here with wife Amy, continues nearly 10 months after the murder. Police said two detectives are actively investigating the case.

As 2007 comes to a close, the investigation into who killed Keith Daugherty of Schaumburg remains wide open.

"It is still an open and ongoing investigation," Schaumburg Sgt. John Nebl said.

As the probe into the February murder of the 40-year-old man heads into its 10th month, Nebl said two detectives are actively working the case.

"We are still out pursuing leads," Nebl said.

Daugherty and his wife, Amy, were awakened by the doorbell about 8:40 a.m. Feb. 21. Keith Daugherty answered the door and was stabbed to death by a man in sunglasses and a hood.

The killer then took $200 to $500 from Amy Daugherty before driving off in a metallic brown pickup with a cap.

When the attacker demanded money from her after Keith's stabbing, May Daugherty went to an envelope where she kept some emergency cash but doesn't know exactly how much was in it. The attacker didn't demand any more.

On a normal day, Keith Daugherty would have been home alone, but his wife had called in sick from work.

Since the murder, Amy Daugherty has moved out of the house where her husband was killed and is living elsewhere in Schaumburg.

Police say the killer is about 6 feet tall and weighs about 180 pounds.
