The briefs: Fire closes S. Elgin bakery
Fire closes bakery
A heater fire closed down a South Elgin bakery for the day Friday, police said. The heating unit on the roof of Azteca Bakery, 333 N. McLean Blvd., caught fire about 2 p.m. "The unit's mechanical motor was the source of the fire," fire Lt. Joe Villella said. Only the heater was destroyed, but there was excess debris and light smoke damage inside the bakery, Villella said. No surrounding businesses were affected, police said.
