Roselle crash victim identified

Police still are investigating what led to a fatal car-train collision that killed an 81-year-old man Wednesday in Roselle. Metra spokesman Patrick Waldron said Thursday that all gates appeared to have been functioning properly and that it's not clear why the man's car was on the train tracks. A woman with the DuPage County coroner's office identified the man as Wilbert Snyder. Snyder was driving a 1991 Chevrolet Capri that appeared to be parked on the train tracks in downtown Roselle, near Prospect Street. The crash occurred around 9 a.m., shortly after the train left the Roselle train station on Irving Park Road. The conductor saw the car and attempted an emergency stop, authorities said.
