Audubon Society: The Kane County Chapter of the Audubon Society will have a New Year's Day Bird Walk at 8 a.m. at Nelson's Lake. Meet in the parking lot by the silo, which is west of Nelson Lake Road, and about three-quarters of a mile south of Main Street, and two miles west of Randall Road in Batavia. Elias Kent Kane DAR: The Elias Kent Kane Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at 1 p.m. Jan. 8 at the Batavia Public Library, 10 S. Batavia Ave., Batavia.
The program will be an "Antiques Road Show" by Deborah McArdle, antique appraisal.

Zonta Club of St. Charles-Geneva-Batavia: An evening with Gary Quigg, an archaeologist, historian, museum professional and television documentary producer, is being sponsored by the club at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 8.
Quigg is a member of the International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery, the world's leading aviation archaeological foundation; a nonprofit organization that tries to find, save and preserve rare and historic aircrafts.
The program for the evening will focus on the sharing of stories and artifacts from his recent expedition to the island of Nikumaroro in the Phoenix Islands southwest of Hawaii to search for remains of Amelia Earhart and her navigator, Fred Noonan, who disappeared in July 1937.

The Zonta Club of St. Charles-Geneva-Batavia meets the first Tuesday of each month at Prairie Landing Golf Course in West Chicago. Zonta International is a worldwide service organization working to improve the status of women.

Aurora Area Job Club: The group was created by Waubonsee Community College and the Aurora Public Library to help people manage their careers and find meaningful employment.
Upcoming sessions include: "Being Your Own Boss: Is Self-employment Right for Me?" Jan. 10; and "Stories from the Trenches: A Job Seeker Shares his Success Story" Jan. 28.
Each meeting includes a strategy session or a guest speaker, followed by a networking breakout session and refreshments. Guest speakers, including local employers, will give updates on business trends and what employers are looking for in candidates.
The meetings are from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the downtown Aurora Public Library, 1 E. Benton Street.

International Folk Dancing: Fermilab International Folk Dancing meets at 7:30 p.m. every Thursday, with teaching and dances for children, and continuing with more advanced teaching and requests. Newcomers are always welcome; no partners are needed.
Scottish country dancing meets every Tuesday from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Newcomers are welcome and all dances are taught or walked through. One need not come with a partner.
English country dancing at Fermilab will continue to meet one Sunday afternoon, from 2 to 5 p.m. each month; the first Sunday of the month through the fall and winter. The group also welcomes newcomers and often holds a potluck supper following dancing.
