Kubina's quick OT goal lifts Leafs; Wings win
SUNRISE, Fla. -- Pavel Kubina scored a power-play goal 34 seconds into overtime to help the Toronto Maple Leafs snap a three-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory over the Florida Panthers.
Kyle Wellwood also scored for Toronto. Tomas Kaberle and Mats Sundin each had 2 assists.
Olli Jokinen scored for the Panthers, which had won three straight.
Thrashers 3, Canadiens 2 ( SO): Slava Kozlov and Marian Hossa each scored in the shootout to give host Atlanta a victory over Montreal. Atlanta, coming off a 3-2 victory over Eastern Conference-leading Ottawa on Thursday, has won three straight after losing four in a row and eight of 11.
Predators 4, Kings 3: Jason Arnott recorded his first hat trick in more than two years and host Nashville snapped a five-game losing streak by beating Los Angeles, sending the Kings to their seventh straight loss.
Sabres 6, Flyers 5 (SO): Buffalo's Ales Kotalik scored the only shootout goal and the visiting Sabres beat Philadelphia to extend their season-high winning streak to six games. Kotalik, who also scored in regulation, beat goalie Martin Biron to the glove side for the winner. Buffalo's Thomas Vanek scored through a screen from the right circle with 7.2 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime.
Hurricanes 4, Lightning 1: Ray Whitney scored twice and had an assist in the third period, and Cam Ward stopped 29 shots to lead visiting Carolina past Tampa Bay. Whitney gave Carolina a 2-1 lead with a goal from the left circle during a delayed penalty call at 9:31 of the third. The left winger added an empty-netter with one minute left. Martin St. Louis scored for Tampa Bay.
Islanders 3, Capitals 2 (OT): Richard Park's goal 3:43 into overtime helped the host New York Islanders to a victory over Washington. Miroslav Satan and Bill Guerin also scored for the Islanders. Alexander Semin and Alex Ovechkin scored for the Capitals.
Blues 4, Bruins 1: Former Bruin Brad Boyes continued his strong start with his 21st goal and Manny Legace made 24 saves, leading visiting St. Louis to a win over Boston. Lee Stempniak, Jamal Mayers and Keith Tkachuk also scored for the Blues. Zdeno Chara had a power-play goal for the Bruins.
Red Wings 4, Wild 1: Dominik Hasek made 18 saves, and tight-checking Detroit suffocated Marian Gaborik in a victory over host Minnesota. Pavel Datsyuk, Johan Franzen, Daniel Cleary and Tomas Kopecky scored for the Red Wings, who took 51 shots in the game. Two nights after becoming the first player in nearly 11 years to score 5 goals in a game, Gaborik was held to just 2 shots by the determined Detroit defense.
Canucks 2, Coyotes 1 (SO): Roberto Luongo made 27 saves and stopped three of four attempts in the shootout to lift visiting Vancouver to a victory over Phoenix.
Ducks 5, Sharks 2: Chris Pronger had a goal and an assist, and Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 27 saves in visiting Anaheim's win over San Jose.
