Police: Schaumburg man assaulted child while armed
A Schaumburg man is in jail on a $1 million bond, accused of sexually assaulting a young female relative while armed with a firearm.
Chad Lee Hardy, 33, 419 Selkirk Drive, is charged with felony predatory criminal sexual assault of a child under 13.
Authorities were tipped off Thursday by a school principal in Schaumburg that a student was a possible abuse victim. Hardy was taken into custody that night and appeared in bond court Friday morning.
Schaumburg police Sgt. John Nebl said the child told a friend and the friend's mother what was happening to her, and the mother told the principal.
The specific school the girl attends in Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54 was not revealed to protect her identity, but no other students were involved or ever at risk, Nebl said.
Authorities are still looking into whether there were previous assaults on the girl before Wednesday, Nebl said.
"The victim had had enough of being abused and was reaching out for help," Nebl said.
Hardy remained in the custody of Cook County sheriff's police late Friday. His next court date is Jan. 18 in Rolling Meadows.
