Power restored at Yorktown Center department stores

Two stores at Yorktown Center in Lombard lost power for nearly an hour this afternoon.

ComEd spokesman Jeff Burdick said both JC Penney and Carson Pirie Scott stores lost power at 11:57 a.m.

Power was restored to Carson Pirie Scott at 12:40 p.m. Crews also restored power to JC Penney a short time later.

Five people were stuck for several minutes in an elevator at the JC Penney store before firefighters opened the doors, fire officials said.

Burdick said the cause of the outage was unknown, but power was being rerouted to the stores before crews investigated and corrected the problem.

Before power was restored, an employee in the JC Penney store office said employees were walking around the building with flashlights and escorting shoppers from the store.
