IHSA is only being fiscally responsible

I am trying to understand the position the Daily Herald and other newspapers have on the IHSA photo issue.

It appears to be something different that what you write.

It appears the IHSA position in this is protecting a right they think they have in owning the rights to all photos taken on the field during the IHSA Championships -- with any revenue being theirs to do with it what they want. Which seems fair for any business. We could discuss that this is not a business, but that is for another time!

In this day and age of programs being cut due to cost reasons and kids having to pay to participate in high school athletics and other programs, it only seems logical the IHSA looks to cut cost and create revenue at the same time. Sounds like "fiscal responsibility" to me.

I am writing this the day a reader wrote about the lack of good photos available during an IHSA Championship and feels the Daily Herald provided better pictures in the past which she purchased.

Her stance was to "let professionals who work for the local newspapers make a decent living and provide the excellent product they have."

Does this mean the revenue generated was paid to the photographer? Now it all is starting to make sense, the photographers are covering an event and part of the compensation they receive appears to be, the money generated by the sale of these photos? Did the IHSA receive any monies? Should they?

Now I seem to be getting the picture. It is about the money and not about the kids. Daily Herald, please help me understand!
