Man shot, killed near his home in Glendale Heights
Police are hunting the killer of a Glendale Heights man who was fatally shot Wednesday while walking his dog.
The slain man was identified as 35-year-old Corey Dale Krueger, who was found unconscious on a sidewalk on the 1200 block of Pleasant Avenue, not too far from his home.
Officers made the grisly discovery about 3 a.m. after a homeowner in the neighborhood complained of a barking dog. The dog remained at Krueger's side.
Krueger suffered a gunshot wound to the head. Rescuers rushed him to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, where he died from his injuries at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday.
The DuPage County Major Crimes Task Force was called in to assist local police detectives with their investigation. Authorities chased leads, conducted interviews and obtained at least one search warrant Wednesday, but they declined to say whether a suspect was in custody.
"It's definitely foul play," confirmed Glendale Heights police Cmdr. Steve Ewoldt. "We're following up on a bunch of leads and are soliciting the public for help."
