Peace signs

The Lions Club International Peace Poster contest in West Chicago attracted 18 posters from fifth- and sixth-graders in West Chicago Elementary District 33. The posters garnered about 300 votes from community residents to pick the winners.

The contest theme was Peace Around the World. Winner Jobana Paramo of Pioneer School will receive a $100 savings bond and represent the West Chicago Lions Club at the district level of the international contest.

Second place was a tie for Jackie Bangert and Kenny Nguyen, both of Wegner School. Third place went to Kristin Fiojo, also of Wegner School.

Other contest entries were submitted by Currier School's Monica Alfaro, Evelyn Amonte, Margarita Botello, Amanda Cielo, Jennifer Cruz, Donna Kubica, Paola Munoz, Enrique Perez and Leslie Perez; Gary School's John Medina and Sandra Tovar: Pioneer School's Karla Salinas; Turner School's Melissa Metzger; and Wegner School's Alex Dimas.
