Lake in the Hills man charged in sex abuse case
A McHenry County judge issued an arrest warrant Tuesday for a 28-year-old Lake in the Hills man accused of molesting a 13-year-old girl earlier this year.
Ryan Zim is charged with one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in connection with allegations that stem from a May incident in Lake in the Hills.
Zim, police said, was expected to turn himself in and appear in court at the McHenry County jail to have a judge set his bond. The charge is a Class 2 felony punishable by three to seven years in prison if he is found guilty.
Lake in the Hills police Sgt. Mark Mogan said Zim's accuser knew him at the time of the incident but was not a family member or someone over whom he held a position of authority. Police learned of the accusations in May, Mogan said, but proceeded carefully with the investigation.
"The victim was in no immediate danger from the alleged offender," Mogan said. "We wanted to make sure we investigated thoroughly before we sought charges."
