Prospect sets aside Jan. 10 date for 'GMac Night'

Prospect High School will host "GMac Night" on Thursday, Jan. 10 to celebrate the career of head varsity wrestling coach Gary McMorrow.

McMorrow is retiring from teaching in 2008 but still may help in wrestling at some level.

Prospect has set up this special occasion as an opportunity for friends, colleagues and former student-athletes to celebrate the career and honor McMorrow's years of service to Prospect, the district and the communities.

The Jan. 10 event will start at 6:45 p.m. and feature an informal reception in the Jean Walker Field House area prior to the varsity wrestling match with Palatine.

McMorrow has been the head wrestling coach at Prospect for 25 years, and he was an assistant at Hersey for 11 seasons.

The 1968 Prospect graduate was a three-time all-conference selection, wrestling at 97 and 103 pounds.

Anyone who has questions regarding "GMac Night" should contact Erik Hammerstrom, Prospect Assistant Principal for Student Activities, at (847) 718-5218.

Bergman receives honors: Carthage College senior tight end Bryan Bergman, an Elk Grove graduate, was named to three all-America football teams.

The 6-foot-4, 244-pound Bergman was named to the American Football Coaches Association first team. He is the first Carthage player to receive the AFCA honor.

Bergman was also chosen to the "D3football.com" second team and the Associated Press Little All-American third team. He is the first Carthage player in 30 years to earn the AP honor.

Bergman caught 37 passes for 421 yards and 2 touchdowns. The four-year starter had 100 career catches for 1,068 yards and 10 TDs.
