Hannah Montana fad is sickening
I must be the only parent of preteen girls on the planet who is sickened by the Hannah Montana phenomenon.
I am not impressed at how Billy Ray Cyrus has chosen to resurrect his pell-mell career through his daughter, how both parents see fit to impose a physically- and mentally-torturous touring schedule on this poor 15-year old girl, how Disney uses impressionable minds to manufacture bland cash-cow stars or how parents of young girls believe that they are doing their daughters great favors by spending fortunes on tickets that will soon be forgotten.
As I sit here and read about Governor Rod Blagojevich's and Senator Barack Obama's daughters, and daughters of other Chicago elite who are being treated to this "event of a lifetime," I can only wonder how many empty bellies their $500-plus tickets might have fed and what life-altering messages their impressionable daughters might otherwise have received had they put these enormous sums to better use!
