Hawthorn Woods picks new public works chief
The village of Hawthorn Woods went with experience when filling its public works director position, officials said.
Jim Maiworm, a Lake Zurich resident, is expected to assume the position in mid-December.
"He's got the kind of experience that we need in a public works director," Hawthorn Woods Mayor Keith Hunt said.
Maiworm replaces Tom Fitzpatrick, who Hunt said left in the fall of 2006.
According to a village press release, Maiworm has been working as assistant public works director Cary. He has also worked for Oak Park and Palatine previously.
Hunt called "the breadth of (Maiworm's) experience" a key factor in the hiring.
Additionally, Hunt said, Maiworm is from the area.
"(Those) were all very appealing factors," he said.
Hunt said the village is continuing to look for replacements in other open positions. Both the village administrator and the village finance director resigned earlier this year.
He said the village is now interviewing for replacements to the administrator position.
"My hope would be that we would be concluding the village administrator within the next two or three weeks," Hunt said.
