Heavyweight playoffs: The Lake Zurich Flames Big-10 Heavyweight Team advanced to the next round in the playoffs after a 26-6 victory over Crystal Lake in The Chicagoland Youth Football League.

On the Flames' second offensive play, Andrew Lehtinen broke free for a 31-yard gain. Two plays later, Sean Eder scored the Flames' first touchdown on a 19-yard run, followed by a successful point-after-try by Zach Till.

The Crystal Lake offense put together a drive in the second quarter but tackles by Carl Miller, Evan Williams, Zack Johnson, Tyler Brandt, and Mike Shield stymied Crystal Lake's progress. Jimmy Bohn, Taylor Coleman and Miller kept the pressure on the offensive line with Declan McGarry breaking through to sack the quarterback for a loss of 7 yards. Four plays later, Lehtinen broke free for another big run, the second Flames touchdown, to make the score to 14-0.

Lake Zurich's offense returned to the field again three plays later after Jeff O'Brien intercepted a Crystal Lake pass tipped to him by Jack Lynn. The offensive line, with Jack Sweeney and Adam Cantwell, gave their quarterback good protection enabling Till to connect with Miller for a 30-yard pass. An 8-yard pass to O'Brien in the end zone extended the Flame's lead to 20-0. The point-after-try was blocked by Crystal Lake. With Crystal Lake unable to score in the next series, the first half ended when Lynn returned the kickoff with a 43-yard run deep into Crystal Lake territory.

In the third quarter, Lake Zurich returned to their running game. Till gained 17 yards on a running play and a run by Sean Eder took the ball to the Crystal Lake 6-yard line. Shield followed up by taking the ball to the 1-yard line where Mark Weber completed the drive to carry it across the goal line for the Flames' final touchdown. Crystal Lake scored their only points on a running play at the end of the 4th quarter, for a 26-6 final score.

The Flames are led by head coach Steve Bohn and Assistant Coaches Vince Gullo, Donn Grambo, Mark Till, K.C. Williams and Pat Lynn.

Patriots vs. Warren: Stevenson's match against Warren got off to a slow start, and the first period ended with no score. Play escalated in the second period when the Patriots scored 4 unanswered goals by Gordon Ochi, Wayne Glickstern, Myles Lobus and Mark Leyderman, whose goal was short-handed and unassisted. The Ochi and Glickstern goals were set up by passes from Nick Fasano and Brad Levinson, respectively. Lobus' goal was the result of Max's shot from the blue line which went wide, but he got the rebound of Justin One's shot for the marker. In the third period, One, Ricky Razdolsky and Marc Weiner scored three more goals for the Patriots.

Stevenson stretched its Metro record to 8-1-1. Mitch Levinson had his second consecutive shutout.
