• Mother/Daughter Book Chat at 7 p.m. Thursday; girls in grades 3-6 and a female relative are invited to read "Princess Academy" by Shannon Hale for discussion: registration required.

• Drop-in Craft, make a reindeer magnet, for all ages, 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 19.

• Board Game Challenge at 11 a.m. Dec. 27. Bring your favorite or play one of the library's board games for children ages 7-14. No registration required.

• Movie at the Library at 11 a.m. Dec. 28. Call the library for title, length and rating. No registration required.

• Dance Dance 101, for middle school and high school students, 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, and Dec. 20. Practice sessions on the library's new Dance Dance Revolution equipment are open to beginners or experts. Practice for an upcoming tournament in January. School ID, library card or other proof of grade or age is required. No registration required.

• Anime/Manga Club, meets at 7 p.m. Thursday for teens age 13 and older who are interested in anime, a style of animation that originated in Japan , and manga, a style of comics. Registration not required. Call Lee Blakely, (630) 879-47777.

• Giving Tree through Dec. 20. Give Christmas gifts to residents of Marklund in Mill Creek by taking a gift tag ornament from the tree near the Check Out Desk upstairs and fulfilling a request by returning a wrapped gift with the tag attached.

• Babysitter's Class, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Jan. 19 for girls and boys ages 11 to 15. This program is offered at no charge; lunch and snacks will be provided. Registration is required.

• Support children's programs by purchasing tickets to win a Brother Kitchen Assistant Electronic Cookbook system valued at more than $300. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5 through Friday at the library or at Hill's Country Store in Kaneville.

• The knight, castle and samurai collection of David Shannon is highlighted during the month of December in the lower lobby display case.

• "Bookin' with Ronald McDonald" at 1:30 or 3 p.m. Dec. 27. Ronald McDonalds's magic show with Stoogie the Bookworm will feature magic tricks, puppets and skits. Families may register for either show.

• Gaming at the library for middle school students from 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 28. Play computer and board games, go on a scavenger hunt and take a behind the scenes tour of the library; register by Dec. 21. Students living outside the district may register for $2 after Friday.

• The family Read-Aloud Book Club, now through April 9. Families who register will keep track of their time spent reading, and earn special reading rewards and entries into prize drawings at the same time. Receive your family book log and details during registration at the ASK ME Desk.

• Kindergarten Readiness "Land of the Letter People" from Jan. through May. Your child must be eligible to attend kindergarten the fall of 2008 in order to enroll in this class. The fifteen classes will be held on Tuesdays from 10 to 10:45 a.m. There is a $25 material fee.

• Homebound Delivery Service, for library cardholders who are homebound due to illness or infirmity. Books and other library materials are delivered to the Holmstad, Riverrain, and Heritage Woods senior living complexes every two weeks. For more information call (630) 879-1393, ext. 340.

• The featured artist for December is Scott Seifrid, showing his digital photography.

• St. Charles Writers group meets at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 19 for their annual holiday reading and party. Moderator Richard Holinger leads the group, which is designed for fledgling and experienced writers ages 18 or older.

• Sunday Afternoon Concert at 2 p.m. Sunday featuring the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra's Honors Brass Quintet.

Town and Country:
