Fire damages office unit in Schaumburg building
Fire destroyed part of a Schaumburg office building early Tuesday.
A snowplow driver working in the area called authorities after seeing fire inside an office building on the 1200 block of Remington Road about 7:35 a.m. Tuesday, Schaumburg fire officials said.
After the driver's initial call, several passers-by called to report seeing smoke and flames inside the building, officials said.
Firefighters responded to the single-story brick building and found smoke and fire coming out of a window of the building's southwest corner. Firefighters were able to get the fire under control in about 15 to 20 minutes.
The fire caused about $150,000 in damage.
No one was inside the building at the time of the fire and firefighters were able to contain the fire to the unit in which it originated, officials said.
No one was injured.
The building was not equipped with a fire alarm or sprinkler system.
The unit where the fire started is uninhabitable, but the other office units in the building were not damaged, officials said.
Officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
