Open Storytimes: The library invites children ages 6 and under and their families to attend these 30-minute sessions that feature stories and songs held at 6:30 p.m. today; 9:30 a.m. Wednesday and 10:30 a.m. Friday. Snack and Craft for teens: Students and teens in grades six through 12 who are puzzled as to what to get family and friends this holiday season can drop by the library's holiday snack workshop and create a range of tasty treats, from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesday.
Movie Discussion: Audiovisual Coordinator John McInnes hosts a complimentary screening and discussion of a feature film from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. For more information, call the library at (847) 253-5675.

"Gift of Reading" Program concludes: The library's "Gift of Reading" program, which collects donations of new or like-new unwrapped books for local children in need (ages 6 and under), will conclude Sunday. Donations of books in English and Spanish are greatly appreciated.
Great Vacations: The December Senior Session at Mount Prospect Public Library will welcome Terri Schroeder, of Wheeling-based Great Escapes Travel, for an overview of ways to plan an excellent vacation, at 1:30 p.m., Dec. 18.
Schroeder will discuss the differences between planning a vacation online or through a travel agent, offer information on popular vacation destinations, and discuss how the travel industry has changed since 9/11.
Coffee, Books & More: Members of the library's Coffee, Books & More group will hold a planning session to determine titles for discussion in 2008, at 10 a.m., Dec. 19. The group welcomes input from patrons who are interested in attending future meetings. No registration is required.
Coffee & Conversation: The library's monthly current events discussion group, "Coffee and Conversation," will meet from 7:30 to 9 p.m., Dec. 21. Designed to provide an open, nonpartisan forum for community members to share their views, this moderated discussion strives to encourage greater understanding of diverse viewpoints and offers a venue where people can participate in honest discussion.
Library closings: Mount Prospect Public Library will be closed Dec. 24, and 25, for the Christmas holiday. Although the building will be closed, patrons will be able to access Online Resources, register for upcoming programs, and renew items and place holds through the "My Account" feature at www.mppl.org.
