Dist. 204 looks at racist graffiti

Indian Prairie School District 204 administrators are looking into a graffiti incident that occurred at the Neuqua Valley Freshman Campus.

A message reading "for whites only" was discovered scrawled on a boys bathroom stall on the second floor, district leaders said Monday.

After seeing the message, a student alerted an administrator, deputy superintendent Kathy Birkett said.

She said the note was not up for more than a few hours and was a one-time occurrence.

Neuqua Valley administrators are investigating to find the student responsible, she said. She declined to say if officials had any ideas.

"We are taking it very seriously," Birkett said. "We want all our students to feel safe in all our buildings. It's very important."

Birkett informed school board members of the incident after the district's Monday meeting.

Indian Prairie District 204 has about 29,000 students and covers parts of Naperville, Aurora, Bolingbrook and Plainfield

Roughly 68 percent of students are white, 14 percent are Asian, 9 percent are black and 6 percent are Hispanic.
