Auld gets first victory for Bruins

Chuck Kobasew and Dennis Wideman scored goals and Alex Auld earned his first victory with Boston as the visiting Bruins shut down the Toronto Maple Leafs in a 2-1 win Saturday night.

Toronto, which had won four in a row, outshot the Bruins but solved Auld just once. He made his first start since being acquired from Phoenix on Thursday, to fill in for the injured Tim Thomas, and allowed only Jason Blake's goal.

Auld finished with 25 saves.

Vesa Toskala played well for the Maple Leafs, making 18 saves in the loss.

Wideman gave Boston a 2-1 lead at 9:25 of the second period with a low slap shot from the blue line that glanced off a stick on its path to the net.

Islanders 3, Lightning 2 (2OT): Mike Sillinger scored a power-play goal with 27.7 seconds left in overtime to help the visiting New York Islanders snap a five-game losing streak with a victory over Tampa Bay. Rick DiPietro made 32 saves, and captain Bill Guerin snapped his 16-game goal drought for the Islanders. Andy Hilbert had the other New York goal. Tampa Bay got a pair of third-period goals from Brad Richards. Johan Holmqvist made 30 saves.

Wild 2, Blue Jackets 1: Brian Rolston's third-period goal and Niklas Backstrom's 31 saves helped visiting Minnesota beat Columbus. Rolston snapped a 1-1 tie with a hard slap shot from the top of the left circle that slipped inside the near post and past goaltender Pascal Leclaire at the 2:22 mark of the third period. Backstrom did the rest, handling a flurry of shots in the final minutes while the Blue Jackets desperately looked for the tying goal.

Predators 4, Ducks 2: Jordin Tootoo had a goal and an assist in host Nashville's victory over Anaheim.

Penguins 2, Canucks 1 (SO): Rookie defenseman Kris Letang scored his second straight shootout winner in the sixth round, lifting Pittsburgh to a win over host Vancouver.

Sabres 7, Sharks 1: Ales Kotalik, Tim Connolly, Michael Ryan and Paul Gaustad scored in the second period and visiting Buffalo trounced San Jose.

Coyotes 4, Kings 2: Radim Vrbata scored on a power play after Kings captain Rob Blake was ejected, and Phoenix defeated host Los Angeles.
