Stevenson snaps losing streak

Stevenson girls basketball coach Trish Betthauser injected some young blood into her starting lineup Saturday, and the end result was a win.

Caitlin Morrissey scored a team-high 10 points, as the Patriots defeated host Palatine 47-37 in a Sweet 16 tournament game.

The win for Stevenson (4-6) snapped its four-game losing streak.

Kayla Fisher and Claire Moller each had 8 points for the Patriots. Betthauser awarded starts to Michelle O'Brien and Anna Morrissey and the freshmen responded with 7 and 6 points, respectively.

Stevenson led 28-15 at halftime and took a 36-30 lead into the fourth quarter.

"We played better 'D,' Betthauser said.

The Patriots committed only 9 turnovers.

Katie MacFabe had 17 points for Palatine.

Lake Zurich 38, Sandburg 32: Lydia Bauer scored 14 points for the Bears, who rallied for the win in a Sweet 16 tournament game in Orland Park.

Coryn Scmit added 8 for Lake Zurich (8-2), which won its fourth straight.

The Bears trailed 28-25 after three quarters before outscoring Sandburg 13-4 in the fourth.

Lake Forest 46, Round Lake 40: Claire DiMario scored 13 points, Julie Collins had 11 and Erica Sanderson added 10 for the Scouts in the North Suburban Conference crossover.

Labrenthia Murdock netted 14 points for Round Lake (7-2), which lost its second straight.

C-G 66, Grayslake North 41: Sophomore forward Lauren Erikson scored 11 points for the visiting Knights, who trailed 16-4 after one quarter and 36-16 at halftime.

Junior guard Ali Vlahos sank two 3-pointers and had 7 points for Grayslake North, which fell to 3-5 with its third straight loss.

Warren 50, Lake Park 33: Sarah Boothe had 20 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists for the host Blue Devils in the nonconference game.

Shana Shepherd added a career-high 17 for Warren (9-0). The senior went 5 of 9 from 3-point range.

Lory Shaw added 6 points and 7 rebounds. Joree Green and Erin Norwood each contributed 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Green also had 3 steals.

Lake Park got 14 points and 6 rebounds from Samantha Arnold.

CL South 38, Grayslake C. 37: The Rams fell just short at Crystal Lake South.

Erin Claxton scored 12 points to lead Grayslake Central (1-6). Alison Metzger added eight.

Girls gymnastics

At Glenbrook North: Libertyville (101.825) finished second to New Trier (104.325) in the Spartan Classic.

Libertyville's Leah Herchenbach won the uneven bars with a 9.025, and her teammate Amanda Winn captured first on vault with a 9.55.
