Woman pleads not guilty in fatal Lake Co. crash
A Barrington woman accused of causing a traffic crash that killed a Fox Lake man pleaded not guilty Friday in Lake County circuit court.
Dana Cameron, 34, is charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless homicide and leaving the scene of an accident.
Assistant State's Attorney James Newman said Cameron, of 180 S. Ela Road, was southbound on Route 12 near Molidor Road about 5 p.m. Nov. 8.
Cameron's 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier sideswiped a southbound Chrysler Sebring driven by Maurice Torres, 49, authorities said.
The impact forced Torres' car into the northbound lanes, where it was struck by another car, killing him.
Cameron drove away from the crash, but a witness followed her to a nearby campground and called police with Cameron's location, authorities said..
She is being held on $500,000 bond, and Newman said she faces up to 14 years in prison if convicted.
Circuit Judge Victoria Rossetti scheduled a trial of the case for Feb. 19 and ordered Cameron to appear in court again Jan. 10.
