Island Lake village sticker winners named

The village of Island Lake has announced this year's winners of its village sticker contest.

Fifth-grader Alexis Pfeiffer won first place in the vehicle sticker competition with her drawing of a girl and a snowman. John Herbst, with a drawing of a boy fishing, won first place for the boat sticker contest.

This is the third year the village has held a contest and allowed kids to draw a picture that might make it onto every village vehicle and boat sticker. More than 50 entries were submitted for the contest.

Second place for the vehicle competition was Michael Bianchi and third place was Amela Causevic. Second place for the boat contest was Haley Steinmetz and third place was Hayley Redmann.

Kids in first through third grades were asked to design a boat sticker with the theme of "Habitat: things found in and around the lake."

Kids in fourth through fifth grade were asked to draw vehicle stickers with the theme of "Community" and what it means to them.

Stickers are now on sale. Boat stickers are $15 and vehicle stickers are $20 each.

The village will formally recognize the winners at an event Thursday at Cotton Creek Elementary School in Island Lake.
