Briefs: Dilger remains on ballot
Dark horse 14th Congressional District candidate Michael Dilger will stay on the Republican primary ballot, the Illinois State Board of Elections decided Thursday. Two people had objected to his petitions, saying many signatures were not valid. But a board hearing officer said the objection should be thrown out because it didn't follow the proper procedures. The board agreed. The board also set Monday through Dec. 17 as the filing dates for the spring's special election to fill retired U.S. Rep. Dennis Hastert's seat.
Tax questions on ballot
Five questions to raise Kane County residents' taxes will be on the Feb. 5 ballot. There will also be a procedural question and three advisory referendums. Thursday was the last day for groups to file referendums for the spring ballot with the county. The groups seeking tax increases are: Sugar Grove public library, the Fox Valley Park District, the St. Charles Park District, the Kaneland Unit District and Virgil Township. Campton Township has three advisory referendums and North Aurora voters will decide if their fire board is elected rather than appointed.
