A 21-year-old Palos Hills man this week was convicted of training to punch a an Elgin police officer last year. Jeremy T. Gil, 21, of the 8700 block of West 98th Place, was found guilty of aggravated battery to a police officer, resisting arrest and possession of alcohol. The most serious charge carries three to seven years in prison. Gil, who was 19 at the time of the June 2006 incident, will be sentenced Feb. 7. After Gil was kicked out for fighting with another patron, he pushed an Elgin police officer in the back and threw a wayward punch.
