Briefs: Seat belt scofflaws ticketed

Barrington-Inverness police issued more than 100 tickets from Nov. 12 through Sunday during a special Thanksgiving holiday seat belt enforcement. Citations handed out during the campaign, which included seat belt checkpoints and so-called saturation patrols, included 77 for seat belt violations, one for child restraint violations and one DUI. One vehicle was seized, and 35 other tickets were issues for various reasons.

Internet safety workshop:

Parents of Palatine Township Elementary District 15 students are invited to a free program on Internet safety presented by the district and the Palatine Police Department. The session will run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the Winston Campus cafeteria, 900 E. Palatine Road. A Palatine crime prevention officer will talk to parents about ways to keep their children safe from Internet dangers. A representative from District 15's technology department will provide information about installing parental blockers on home computers. Registration is required, and the session is for adults only. Sales tax referendum info

The Deer Park village board has scheduled two upcoming meetings to present information and answer questions on the sales tax increase referendum question that will appear on the Feb. 5 primary election ballot. The village is asking residents to approve a 0.5 percentage-point sales-tax increase, or an additional half-cent on the dollar. The meetings are scheduled for 7 p.m. Dec. 11 and Jan 9. Both will take place at the Vehe Barn, 23570 West Cuba Road.

Randhurst hours extended

The Randhurst Shopping Center, 999 Elmhurst Road, Mount Prospect is open for extended hours and special events during the holiday season. The extended hours are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Dec. 15; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday; 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Dec. 16; 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Dec. 22; 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Dec. 23; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Christmas Eve. Santa photos and visits are available through Christmas Eve; children's train rides through Dec. 31; and Salvation Army Angel Trees through Dec. 17.
