Plumbing details in story were incorrect

I am writing in response to the Nov. 16 front page article, "Getting a safe, sound home." I would have hoped for more research before putting this article to print.

It said a tub and shower combo must have a control valve limiting water temperature to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. That statement is false.

Per Illinois Plumbing Code 2004 Sec 890 690 B, Water Temperature Safety, "shower/bath combinations shall be provided with an automatic safety waste device to prevent sudden unanticipated change in water temperatures. The mixing device shall be either thermostatic, pressure balance, or combination controller, ANSI/ASSTE 1016 1990, with a handle rotation limit/stop adjusted to a maximum 115 degrees not 120 degrees Fahrenheit."
