Glendale Heights begins park study

Glendale Heights officials are in the midst of conducting a park analysis that they hope eventually will lead to improvements.

After a number of residents from different groups within the village requested improvements at parks near them, the village's parks and recreation department decided to go ahead with a study. So far, staff and resident focus groups have been well-attended. On Dec. 4, the village board will meet to further discuss the collected ideas.

All 21 of the village's parks are being examined.

"We're looking at what we have, what's coming up in the future, what some new trends in park development are and asking residents what it is that they'd like to see in a park," Glendale Heights Parks & Recreation Director Cec Sullivan said.

Officials expect to have a master plan completed by April, but the actual improvements won't begin for a while.

Officials also haven't started discussing dollar amounts for the projects.

"We've got a long way to go before we pick and choose," Sullivan said.
