Briefs: PTA fund audit completed

An independent audit of the Chesak-Martin PTA fund has been completed and handed over to Lake in the Hills police. The PTA, which serves Chesak and Martin elementary schools in Huntley Unit District 158, reported a possible theft from the account on Oct. 10. No charges have been filed, but police said they anticipate concluding the investigation within two weeks, aided by the results of the audit. The PTA account is maintained independently of District 158 funds.

Brass band at Hemmens

Illinois Brass Band will be performing An Old Fashioned Christmas at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way, Elgin. Illinois Brass Band is a six-time North American Brass Band Association Champion. The performance will feature classic carols and other holiday songs. Tickets are $15 and $20 and available at the Hemmens or by calling (847) 931-5900.

Collecting food at dance

Friday's Prairie Knolls Middle School dance will double as a food collection service. The student council will collect canned goods and other non-perishable items they'll donate to a local shelter. The dance will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at the high school. Call the school at (847) 464-6000.

Students display artwork

Student artwork from 23 Elgin Area School District U-46 elementary schools are on display at First Community Bank. The "Art is Elementary" exhibit will run through Jan. 17 at the bank, in Tyler Creek Plaza in Elgin (at the corner of McLean and Big Timber). Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Rock 'round Christmas tree

The second annual Rock Around the Christmas Tree in Sleepy Hollow kicks off at 6 p.m. Saturday at the home of Josh and Erin Peterson. The Petersons have decorated their home on Maple Lane with at least 80 lighted decorations that are coordinated to music. The official lighting of the home takes place at 7 p.m., with food and beverages available beforehand. Visitors can view the decorations while listening to 88.3 FM for a visual and audio experience.
