Briefs: Man arrested in robbery

A Hoffman Estates man is charged with robbing a Taco Bell in Des Plaines last month, police said. Michael D. Daniels of 1075 Knoll Lane, Hoffman Estates, was arrested Nov. 24 in Chicago during an armed robbery, police said. Daniels, 54, is a suspect in a string of armed robberies around the Chicago area, police said. On Oct. 5, he is accused of entering Taco Bell, 945 S. Elmhurst Road, and showing the cashier a handgun and demanding money. He left with money from two cash registers, fleeing on foot down Elmhurst Road, police said.

Randhurst hours extended

The Randhurst Shopping Center in Mount Prospect is open for extended hours and special events during the holiday season. The extended hours are: 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturdays, Dec. 1, 8 and 15; 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Sundays, Dec. 2 and 9; 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16; 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22; 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23; 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24. Santa photos and visits are available through Dec. 24; children's train rides through Dec. 31; and Salvation Army Angel Trees through Dec. 17.

Free movie this weekend

Arlington Heights Village President Arlene Mulder will host "Movie with the Mayor" on Saturday where kids can see one of three holiday movies for free if they bring one canned food item. A free large popcorn will also be given to anyone who brings an unwrapped toy (no stuffed animals). Doors open at 8 a.m. on Saturday at Arlington Theatres, 53 S. Evergreen Ave. The movies are "Shrek the Third," "Miracle on 34th Street" and "Elf." All movies are rated PG.

Pearl Harbor remembrance

The Barrington Memorial Post 7706 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post 158 will host a special ceremony at 10 a.m. Dec. 7 to honor the men and women who died during the attacks on Pearl Harbor in 1941. The ceremony will take place at Barrington's Veterans Memorial, at the corner of Main and Cook streets. The public is invited to attend the ceremony, which will include a moment of silence to honor all veterans.
