Suspect charged in robberies

A 54-year-old Hoffman Estates man has been charged in connection with a string of armed robberies in several DuPage County communities, authorities said.

Michael D. Daniels, of 1075 Knoll Lane, was being held Wednesday in Cook County jail on charges stemming from an armed robbery in Chicago, officials said.

DuPage authorities claim that between Oct. 1 and Nov. 1, Daniels entered at least seven area businesses, showed employees a handgun and demanded money.

Among the communities in which the robberies occurred were Westmont, Itasca, Oakbrook Terrace, Willowbrook and Darien.

In all, Daniels has been charged by the DuPage County state's attorney's office with five counts of armed robbery, five counts of aggravated robbery, one count of attempted armed robbery and one count of attempted aggravated robbery.
