Elgin Children's Chorus to sing holiday tunes

Join the Elgin Children's Chorus as they create musical memories. The four choirs, totaling 180 children, will perform seasonal melodies as they present "Christmastide Carols" at 3 and 6 p.m. Sunday at the Elgin Community College Arts Center, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

A highlight of the program will be the world premiere of "Innocent Child," composed especially for the chorus by local musician and songwriter Jeff Grosser.

Under the direction of Lisa Bettcher, the Treble Choir will perform "Welcome One and Welcome All," a festive processional composed by Audrey Synder; "Gloria" by David Giardiniere; and "Agnus Dei," composed by Sonja Poorman.

The Intermezzo Choir, under the direction of Elizabeth Ellis, will perform "Peace on this Silent Night" by Cristi Cary Miller; "Gloria Deo!" by Mary Lynn Lightfoot; "Marshmallow World," a contemporary winter melody arranged by Greg Gilpin; "Carol of the Russian Children," based on a 16th-century Russian carol arranged by Audrey Synder; and "S'vivon," a traditional Hebrew Folk Song arranged by Lois Brownsey and Marti Lunn Lantz.

Jay Kellner will conduct the Chamber Choir as they perform "Exaudi! Laudate!" by Beverly A. Patton; "Ave Maria," arranged by Jay Kellner; and "I'll Be Home for Christmas," arranged by Roger Emerson.

The Concert Choir will perform under the baton of Jay Kellner the world premiere of "Innocent Child" by Jeff Grosser; "O Come Let Us Adore Him" arranged by Jay Kellner; "Veni Jesu" by Cherubini; "Ich will den Herrn" by Georg Philipp Telemann; and "Hang Up the Stocking," arranged by Robert Hanson.

Ticket office hours are from noon to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, noon to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 90 minutes prior to each performance.

The Elgin Children's Chorus is an in-residence ensemble at the Elgin Community College Arts Center.
