Rush signs record-setting fullback

One of the Arena Football League's brightest young stars, record-setting fullback Dan Alexander, has signed a two-year deal to play for the Chicago Rush.

Alexander, a 6-foot, 265-pound fullback/linebacker from Nebraska, was named first team All-Arena last season with Nashville after rushing for a league-leading 426 yards and shattering the AFL record by scoring 41 rushing touchdowns.

"In just three years Dan has established himself as one of the most productive ballcarriers our league has ever seen," said Rush coach Mike Hohensee.

Earlier this month, the Rush signed veteran fullback Matt Kinsinger to a two-year contract. Kinsinger, who played for the ArenaBowl champion San Jose SaberCats, will share backfield duties with Alexander.

"I wanted to play for a team that will compete for the ArenaBowl every year, and Chicago definitely has a shot each and every year," said Alexander. "It doesn't hurt that I was born in Chicago and still have family in the area, which made me feel even more comfortable about the decision to join the Rush."

Alexander was a member of the Cornhuskers team that went 12-1 and won the Big 12 title in 1999, and the 10-2 team that defeated Northwestern in the 2000 Alamo Bowl -- in which Alexander was named game MVP after rushing for an Alamo Bowl-record 240 yards.

After being drafted by the Tennessee Titans, Alexander spent three seasons in the NFL before he was released.

The Rush has been busy this off-season. The Rush signed quarterback Sherdrick Bonner, who played in five ArenaBowl games with Arizona, and wide receiver Damian Harrell, who was twice named AFL Offensive Player of the Year.
